In this months issue...

Dear Reader,

At SRO, our core values, business objectives and integrity are of the utmost importance. Therefore, at every stage, we keep these in mind to ensure that everything we do meets the high standards we originally set ourselves in order to ensure we are always able to deliver on our promises. I hope from the information below, you will agree that we remain true to our word?

Increasing Software Annual Fees and the effectiveness of many support desks is of growing concern. In recognition of this and based on increasing demand from our growing customer base, we have spent the last couple of months looking at alternatives and, as a consequence we are launching our ‘PAYGO' ‘Pay-As-You-Go' Support, a service that we hope you agree fits perfectly with one our main objectives – “to add value to your software investments”.

Since our previous newsletter, not only have we been extremely pleased with the amount of work being entrusted upon us but perhaps most satisfying has been the type and variety of projects we are now involved with. This variety fits exactly with another of our objectives – “to provide cost-effective & flexible resources to meet the demands of all your day-to-day business operational needs” - therefore many thanks for your business to-date and continued support, we really appreciate the confidence being shown in our new Company.

From the outset we stated that - “SRO will combine its in-house knowledge and consulting expertise with selected 'best-of-breed' software & hardware vendors…” - so I am pleased to announce our latest partner agreement with Cabis Solutions Ltd, increasing our product portfolio and enabling SRO to provide an excellent and innovative solution for your ever increasing Safety & Quality requirements.

Thank you for taking the time to read our newsletter and many thanks to all for the responses and support we have received over the last few months it is most gratifying to know that we are on the right track!

Best Regards

Steve Driver

'PAYGO' Support Services
PAYGO Support Services

As a result of growing demand from our contacts & customers, we are pleased to announce the introduction of the SRO ‘Pay-As-You-Go Support Service' (PAYGO). Providing a support facility without any long-term obligation or contract, simply an initial charge for each separate issue and quarterly hour charging for the time taken to resolve each support issue.

The service includes both remote and onsite support for various 3rd party applications together with general IT services. Following a simple online registration & authentication process, access will be made available via telephone, e-mail, internet & fax for UK office hours support and, with prior agreement, an out-of-office service is also available.

As quality assurance, the service comes with a pre-defined SLA (Service Level Agreement), a knowledge base, and RCA (Root Cause Analysis) to ensure that not only do we fix each problem effectively but, with continuous improvement in mind, offer solutions that can help prevent the same issue arising again.

To further compliment the service, registered customers are automatically entitled to free use of the SRO Forum, always accessible via the SRO website. This we believe will allow an open discussion and self-help between users of the various systems we are all involved with.

Safety & Quality - Incident Reporting...
Cabis We are pleased to announce our new ‘Systems Integrator Partner Agreement' with Cabis Solutions Ltd of Manchester, UK. Under the terms of the agreement, SRO will promote, sell & deliver Cabis Solutions software products to the maritime market.

“Based on the successful delivery of a 300 user system to Jo Tankers of Norway for their 25 vessel fleet and worldwide offices and after extensive market research, Cabis quickly identified a large maritime demand. But as a consequence, also recognized the need for the most effective distribution sales channel. For this reason, SRO were selected based on their many years of experience, market knowledge and reputation”, said Dr Adrian Dore, Managing Director for Cabis.

Cabis Solutions Limited, a Microsoft Certified Partner, is a leading developer of computer-assisted business improvement systems, including business development, safety and quality management, performance management and people management.

At SRO we set out to “add value” and work with ‘best-of-breed products', therefore the partnership with Cabis further complements our main business objectives and significantly strengthens our product portfolio. Safety & Quality are of paramount importance in our industry and software is an essential tool for managing the administration. Unfortunately many of the traditional maritime software products tend to be over complicated, inflexible, not very user friendly and, when considering the usually necessary bespoke modifications and ongoing annual fees fees, the total cost of ownership for such systems becomes very high.

The Cabis system provides easily executable processes governed by company policies and standards. Controlled documents are integrated with an effective incident management facility. Developed in Microsoft .NET the system operates on a variety of SQL database platforms and combines a shipboard ‘thin-client' and office ‘smart-client' interface to ensure complete flexibility and user-friendliness as well as a simple but effective means of ship-to-shore replication using XML file data exchange.

With a combination of flexible licencing & support arrangements along with a cost-effective implementation process, the systems deliver optimum value with a measurable ROI. Click here for more information.

Fax and Telex Messaging Solution...

Fax and Telex Messaging SolutionsSRO recently implemented a solution for Liverpool based ship management company ‘Meridian Marine'. With additional bespoke applications created by SRO, Meridian were given the added ability to send fax messages directly from their purchasing systems which include ShipNet and AMOS M&P.

SRO Solutions have formed reseller agreements with both ‘GFI' and ‘Codestone Communications'.

GFI provide high end security and messaging solutions including a gateway fax solution that allows users to receive fax messages directly in their email inbox in the form of a PDF document. It also allows users to send fax messages from their preferred application such as Microsoft Word or Outlook and as the software is installed at the server gateway fax messages can be sent/received by users when working remotely.

Codestone Communications provide and additional product that complements the GFI fax gateway software which adds the ability to send/receive telex messages using your preferred email client.

Condition Based Maintenance (CBM)...

James Fisher Mimic'As you may already be aware, for some time now we have been working closely with 'James Fisher MIMIC ' in order to assist in bringing the latest version of MIMIC to the commercial maritime market.

James Fisher Mimic' has successfully worked with the Royal Navy since 1988 where the MIMIC condition monitoring system forms an integral part of the UK MoD's policy of Reliability Centred Maintenance. MIMIC products are installed onboard some 83 ships, submarines and shore establishments.

No one wants to spend money on unnecessary maintenance work and, although an approach based on scheduled maintenance intervals does provide a controlled and manageable maintenance programme, it may not be the most cost effective. As a compliment to a structured PPM policy, a CBM system such as MIMIC tailored to your operational performance trends and for selected items of machinery, can ensure that certain maintenance work need only take place when records indicate it to be necessary – and not at arbitrarily chosen intervals.

CBMMany companies have already invested in a Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and, in general, the data that drives value from any CMMS usually comes form multiple data sources which, in order to obtain maximum benefit requires collection and analysis that can be time consuming and often neglected. CBM addresses this problem by automating the data collection, data analysis and distribution process therefore ensuring that maintenance decisions are driven when machinery condition and performance dictate. Implemented correctly the installation of a CBM system can significantly reduce the overall cost of maintenance on board and reduce ‘downtime' of critical machinery items. It is often the case that the CBM system is integrated into the CMMS product and as such can automatically ‘trigger' maintenance inspections depending upon predefined parameters.

SRO, in conjunction with JF Mimic, are now able to provide advice on all aspects of maintenance including the respective advantages and disadvantages of traditional planned maintenance and an informed condition based maintenance approach. Click here to read more.
