SRO in the news Plant Engineer: March/April 2012
Managing maintenance article
In an article talking about CMMSs in action, the benefits that DP World Southampton enjoyed after implementing Maximo were outlined.
The company wanted to improve maintenance performance, increase plant efficiency and reduce operating costs. After SRO Solutions had implemented Maximo, DP World were able to move from “break-fix” maintenance towards prevention. It also enabled them to achieve a 10% reduction in breakdown-related work and a corresponding increase in planned maintenance.
Maximo now manages both the maintenance processes themselves as well as the associated processes, such as procurement and inventory management for spare parts and equipment.

Boskalis utilise SDR to keep vessels up to date with Maximo asset management data
SRO recently completed the roll-out of SDR to Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V (Boskalis). Boskalis is a leading global services provider operating in the dredging, maritime infrastructure and maritime services sectors. Its clients include national, regional and local governments, port operators, international project developers, oil companies, mining companies and other contractors.
With 300 vessels worldwide operating in five continents, Boskalis needed a way to accurately track dredging costs for each project including maintenance, fuel and inventory. For this Boskalis uses IBM Maximo Asset Management software to manage preventive and corrective maintenance, processing about 40,000 work orders annually and managing nearly e30 million in inventory per vessel.
Managed from head office
Having used Maximo since 1999, Boskalis wanted to ensure that a number of its vessels kept their asset data current, even when they were at sea. The SDR is the ideal solution for this as Neil Stanford, SRO project manager explained, “Boskalis had more than forty ships that needed to keep up-to-date with essential data but due to poor communication links were not able.
“The SDR allows organisations to manage data updates with disconnected and remote vessels and sites. It is not dependent on latency or bandwidth to function and has been proven on many previous implementations to overcome this problem easily.”
The SDR roll-out took almost a year to complete and enables Boskalis staff to manage the entire operation from their head office.

New SRO training room in regular use
When we relocated to our new premises in Virginia House, we dedicated a considerable amount of the floor space to be a training room. This was because we were being asked to carry out an increasing amount of training both on Maximo and on our other solutions such as the SDU and SDR.
Since we moved in last August, this room has been in regular use for training on a variety of topics. One recent course, run by Bill Wallace our technical manager demonstrates the type of specific and customised training that organisations now want.
“We do not run standard off-the-shelf courses”, said Bill, “but design them around what our customers want.”
Customised training
“This last course was a good case in point. It was a 2 days of training covering the terminology of the Maximo Integration Framework for Data Loading. There were delegates from 2 different organisations and because the course was designed specifically for them we were able to cover a lot of ground.”
The training covered: definitions, basic data loading, multi-table data loading, defining object structures and error handling for Maximo 7.5.
Feedback from the course was uniformly good with one delegate saying, “From my point of view everything was excellent, course content, the room set out etc. Also I thought the way in which Bill went about the training was excellent, he explained things very well and also prompted us to use our brains rather than be taught parrot fashion. All in all, top marks, I will definitely recommend SRO in the future.”
Another said, “The course and instructor were excellent and certainly fulfilled all my requirements.
Many thanks to Bill Wallace.”
So, if you are looking at any type of Maximo training, why not give us a call and we can discuss exactly what you are aiming to achieve and design your training appropriately.
